Come hang with us this month and help us infuse love and laughter in with the Preordered Coats of our very first season! We’ll be creating our own assembly line of awesomeness the week of October 19th and October 26th in the Logan Square neighborhood, and we need YOU to help us ship all those preordered coats! If you’re available for one of these volunteer shifts for both weeks (i.e. Mondays), please email me at Leanne@VauteCouture.com with your first and last name, email, cell phone, & shift(s) available! We really really need you!  Free tee for helping out- whichever size/style you want, of course. xo.

NYC FIT MODELS!

Gasp, I can barely believe it but we are deep in development for next year already.  So now, we need fabulous Fit Models (Shoutout to Chrissy- our amazing Chicago fit model for 09-hollerrrr!) for next year’s coat line, this time in New York City (New York City!). If you fit the measurements to the right and have some availability on weekday afternoons (we’ll work with your schedule), please send your name, email address, phone, measurements, typical size coat, and weekday availability for mid-late October and November, all to Leanne@VauteCouture.com. If it’s a good fit (har har), you’ll get an inside scoop as to our inner workings, new season’s styles, and be a very special part of our second line- how fun is that? You must enjoy trying on stuff that’s not finished, people poking at you (hey!!!), and having to turn while people look at you. Oh it’s all in a days work… and we will love you for it!

hope to hear from you!! We can’t do this without you!

this little lamb went to market…

Posted by leanne on Friday Sep 25, 2009 Under animals
and found an amazing home (mom ended up at slaughter.)

…escaped slaughter and found an amazing home at the Farm Sanctuary. Hip hip hoorah!

Like that Mandy Moore flick that I never saw- SAVED! This little blue eyed boy- born in a transport truck with his mother on the way to slaughter, now named Angelo, was rescued when a woman saw him at the market, where the truck was parked, and asked if she could take him…   With his mother on the way to slaughter just minutes after giving birth- crowded in a transport truck with other sheep going the same fate, Angelo lucked out- and was on his way to the Farm Sanctuary, to live a full peaceful life under the stars and in the grass.

Big Sigh… thinking about those other sheep… Most people don’t realize that almost all sheep raised for their wool end their lives in slaughter, when they don’t produce to standard anymore.

I’m so happy for Angelo. More amazing rescue stories at the Farm Sanctuary here! They’ll make your day.

Three cheers for Farm Sanctuary!!

Vaute Couture Team: Summer Intern Caitlin

Posted by leanne on Wednesday Sep 2, 2009 Under Vaute Couture Team

told you she was adorable.

told you she was adorable.

Caitlin is one of our summer interns, hailing from Rhode Island, but grew up in Maryland, studied fashion in Phila, then moved to Chicago for business school (at my alma matar- DePaul- whoot!) She has 2 bostons at home that she misses dearly (Dukey and Chucky- not named after that Chucky, c’mon people who would do that!?) She’s an astrology nut, checking into her possible bf’s stars match with her own and gets her daily horoscopes which oddly, don’t seem too accurate, but she reads them anyway!  She is also adorable, fabulous at research, and offers this, “Living cruelty free is not as hard you think, just try it.” aw, so sweet. Meet Caitlin (as interviewed by Valentina, our other summer intern)! (my comments in parentheses as always.)

1. Do you like fashion, or like- LIKE fashion? Tell the truth.

I’m a lifelong style magazine enthusiast and always pictured my future having something to do with the industry. (I’ve got five subscriptions right now- normal?) My freshman year I majored in Fashion Merchandising in Philly but then realized a business focus at DePaul would better prepare me for a career. Now I’m hoping to combine my skills and creativity with my love of fashion and see where it takes me.

2. What’s a quintessential Caitlin thing to do in Chicago?

Shopping downtown – the feel of taking the escalator in Water Tower Place or walking down Michigan Ave. with handfuls of bags…heaven. And my favorite hobby? going to indie concerts, does that count? :)  (um, sure Caitlin! Wait- you also volunteer for PAWS, right? I think that counts more. :))

3. And your favorite postcard stop?

Norway and Iceland are some of the most unusual places I’ve had the chance to visit. It seemed as if I was on a different planet, craters everywhere…maybe they should market themselves as out of this world, literally (ba doom, ch!)  I did have one of the best mineral baths while I was there at this place called Blue Lagoon. (ahhh, sounds pretty good right about now.)

4. Any words to live by?

Mom taught me this: Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you choose to deal with it. Generally, I like to deal with things as they come, and that has worked well for me so far. (sounds like it!)

If you have any questions for Caitlin, feel free to leave them here. :)

If Chicago, fashion and the earth on the top of your list, you’ll be a fast fan of Pivot Boutique.  Owned by Daily Candy’s favorite Chicago girl-Jessa Brinkmeyer, is Chicago’s first conscientious fashion boutique featuring “eco-smart” fashion, Environmentally friendly, fair trade, made locally, and some vegan brands and designs (hint, hint).

We teamed up with Pivot to host Chicago’s first ever Vegan Style Night, on Monday 9/14 from 6-8pm. Our coats will be available for try-on & pre-ordering. But please note! As you probably know all of our fabrics are super new & completely custom made For our production run, so the try-on sample coats are only in the lovely blackberry color seen here. Though of course you know they’re available for order in black, blue, gray, and ivory. You can try them on for fit and size, and we’ll be measuring as well to get a good idea of what size is for you!  $100 of each event order of the El, Pea, and Bomono styles will go to our friends at the fabulous Mercy for Animals- ah-mazing AR group known for their edgy ads on MTV. Guys- not to worry- tees will also be available for try-on and ordering (girls too!)

*ALSO* Pioneer vegan bag label- Matt & Nat will have their holiday preview on hand. And, local vegan & eco-conscious shoe label Mohop Shoes trunk show too!

And what vegan party would be complete without something yummy for your tummy? Appetizers from Artfully Delicious veg caterer using local label Upton’s Naturals seitan, with smoothies from newbie the Protein Bar will be on hand to delight your t-buds.

Not vegan and want to learn more? We’ll be chatting about the lifestyle, all are welcome!
